Annual vaccination for your pet is the building blocks of basic pet health. For owners though this can be a confusing time given the many different vaccine types, brands and vaccination schedules.
The Veterinarians at Huntingdale Veterinary centre can help tailor make a vaccination schedule to your pet that will ensure the highest level of protection for your situation.
Of interest to all puppy owners is the two dose vaccine schedule ending at 12 weeks of age instead of the standard 18 weeks. Unfortunately due to a recent change in the Australian Veterinary Associations vaccination recommendations, it is now advised that puppies receive a final vaccine not sooner than 16 weeks of age. This means a C3 vaccine is performed at 6-8 weeks and then a C5 vaccination is administered at 12-14wks and again at 16-18weeks. Furthermore it is recommended they receive a C5 at their next annual vaccination with the option of 3 yearly C3 vaccinations following this. Canine cough vaccinations remain and annual event which we can synchronise with your dogs annual heartworm injection. Heartworm injections can now be performed at 12 weeks of age to avoid the need to administer monthly medication which helps simplify your dogs health care.
Canine vaccination includes:
- C3: Canine parvovirus, Canine hepatitis and Canine Distemper
- C5: Canine parvovirus, Canine hepatitis, Canine distemper and Canine cough
Don't forget that most boarding facilities demand and up to date vaccination history which includes canine/kennel cough, so don't let you pets injections lapse or that long awaited holiday may be affected.
And,
For all you new kitten owners the the latest vaccines are also available including the new feline aids virus vaccine which will help protect your kitten against this deadly virus that is present in 30% of Perth's cat population
